NCC to conduct 3rd Knowledge Exchange Conference for CeCs In view of the gains resulting from the two batch conducts of the Knowledge Exchange Conference (KEC) on Community e-Centers (CeCs), the National Computer Center, in collaboration with the Development Academy of the Philippines and the International Development Research Centre – India, is set to convene the 3rd Knowledge Exchange Conference on 27-29 September 2006 at the Cebu White Sands of Maribago Beach Resort, in Mactan, Cebu. With its particular emphasis on strengthening Community e-Center (CEC) initiatives in the country, the 3rd KE conference is aimed to be the forerunner activity in forging the collaboration and resource-sharing among CeC implementers in the country with the hope that the anticipated convergence of CeC efforts would lead to a strengthened and synergized CeC implementation in the country. The 3rd KEC is, thus, seen as a venue for the institutionalization of the Philippine CeC Network which would involve the participation of various telecenter initiatives in the government, the private sector and the academe in cognizance of the felt need to consolidate CeC initiatives in the Philippines with the primary objective of ensuring a sustained flow of sharing and interchange of resources, knowledge and ideas among CeC stakeholders. Hence, the 3rd KE conference is planned to be a bigger and expanded event to include not only the presence of eLGU CeC beneficiaries but also the participation of other CeC players and stakeholders as well as content providers and contributors from other government agencies, non-government organizations (NGOs) and people’s organizations, (POs), and the academe. The participation of local and international fund donors will as well be solicited to enhance the implementation of convergent CeC initiatives in the country. The conduct of the 3rd KE conference is partly funded through a grant from the International Development Research Centre under the able leadership of Dr. Basheerhamad Shadrach. |
